Coffee Adventure: Exploring Kenangan's Unique Gula Aren Latte

I recently had the opportunity to visit Sunway Pyramid (சன்வே பிரமிட்)  and stumbled upon Kenangan Coffee, a well-known coffee outlet from Indonesia.

Excited to try it out, I approached the barista to place my order. To my surprise, there were two options for lattes on the menu: a regular latte and a Kenangan latte. Curious about the difference, I inquired with the barista. It turns out the Kenangan latte contains gula aren, which is palm sugar, a famous and traditional ingredient in Indonesian cuisine. Given the connection to Indonesia and the perception of palm sugar as a healthier choice, I decided to go with the Kenangan latte.

I ordered a small hot Kenangan latte, which set me back around RM9.90. The moment I took my first sip, I could tell that it was something special. The unique touch of palm sugar added a distinct sweetness and depth of flavor to the coffee that set it apart from typical lattes. The combination of rich coffee and the caramel-like notes of gula aren created a delightful harmony in each sip.

While I thoroughly enjoyed my Kenangan latte, I must admit that it couldn't quite dethrone my all-time favorite, cow milk brew coffee. My quest to find a coffee that can surpass the classic taste of cow milk brew coffee continues.

However, Kenangan Coffee is definitely a unique and delightful experience that I would recommend to coffee enthusiasts looking to try something different, especially if they appreciate the flavors of Indonesia.

One thing to note is that, as of now, Kenangan Coffee only has branches in the Klang Valley (கிள்ளான் பள்ளத்தாக்கு/Lembah Klang) . This can be a miss for those of us who come from places like Penang, as it's not yet accessible outside of the Klang Valley area. Unfortunately, I also missed the opportunity to take a picture of my cup, as I was in a hurry to my meeting.
